Yolanda Díaz
holds a degree in Law. Her first public position was as a councilor in the Ferrol City Council, where she eventually became deputy mayor. In 2012, she was elected as a member of the Galician Parliament, serving as deputy spokesperson until 2016.
Since January 2020, she has been Minister of Labor and Social Economy, where she has championed social dialogue. The first major agreement she reached was the increase of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI). In July 2021, she became Vice President of the Government.
As Minister of Labor, she has forged 18 major agreements through Social Dialogue, including far-reaching measures such as the Labor Reform, which has significantly reduced job insecurity, especially among young people, as well as pioneering regulations such as the law guaranteeing labor rights for people working in the digital platform sector, which is serving as the basis for the future European directive on platform workers.
Moreover, the fight against the gender pay gap has materialized in two agreements with trade unions: the Equality Regulations and the Equal Pay Regulations. She has also addressed a long-standing historical debt to domestic workers, who now have access to unemployment benefits, just like other workers.
