Xavier Bertrand,
current president of the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France and former French minister, was born in Chalons-sur-Marne. Professional insurance agent, he began his political career at the early age of 16. His dedication led him to be elected as a deputy for the second district of Aisne in 2002, a position he held for three consecutive terms.
Bertrand has held significant roles within the French government. He was appointed Minister of Health from 2005 to 2007, where he implemented key reforms in the public health system. Later, he served as Minister of Labor from 2007 to 2009, working on labor reform and modernizing the pension system. Upon returning to the cabinet in 2010, he took on the role of Minister of Labor, Employment, and Health, managing these three crucial areas until 2012.
At the local level, Bertrand won the mayoral race of Saint-Quentin, in the Aisne department, in 2010, where he led significant urban and social development initiatives. Since 2016, he has presided over the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France, one of the most dynamic regions in France, where his leadership has been instrumental in economic development and job creation.
