Sergey Paltsev,
is the Deputy Director of the MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy and a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) in Cambridge, USA. He leads the MIT Economic Projection and Policy Analysis (EPPA) model, which is used to study global economic and environmental policies. His research covers a broad range of topics, including energy economics, climate policy, taxation, advanced energy technologies, and international trade, reflecting his expertise in these areas.
Dr. Paltsev serves on the Advisory Board for the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Consortium and the Scientific Steering Committee for the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium (IAMC). He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals and books, significantly contributing to the understanding of global economic and environmental issues. His work has earned him several awards, including the 2012 Pyke Johnson Award from the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, USA, for the best paper in planning and environment. He also received the Best Policy Analysis Paper of 2012 from Environmental Science and Technology Journal of the American Chemical Society, and the Best Research Award of 2004 from Tokyo Electric Power Company, Japan.
He was a Lead Author of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), contributing to global climate change research. Previously at MIT, he served as Director of the Energy-at-Scale Center and Deputy Director of the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change. These centers evolved into the MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy, which focuses on research guiding societal transitions to a sustainable future.
