Salvador Illa He holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Barcelona and a master's degree in Business Administration from the IESE Business and Management School of the University of Navarra.
His public career began in 1995 as mayor of his native town, La Roca del Vallès, where he has always lived. Subsequently, he assumed the General Directorate of Infrastructure Management of the Department of Justice of the Generalitat between 2005 and 2009.
In 2010, after a brief stay in the private sector, he was appointed Director of Economic Management of the Barcelona City Council. This step in the Catalan capital led him to exercise, between 2011 and 2016, the coordination of the Socialist Municipal Group in the City Council of Barcelona. In the City Council, he was manager of Enterprise, Culture and Innovation.
Salvador Illa was appointed Minister of Health of the Spanish Government in January 2020 and managed from the front line the most difficult moments of the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting the vaccination process.
Candidate and winner of the Catalan elections in February 2021, he has been president of the Socialists and United for Progress Parliamentary Group and Head of the Opposition in the Parliament of Catalonia during this last legislature. In the May 12, 2024 elections, Salvador Illa was again the head of the PSC list, which again won its elections, with 42 deputies.
