Ernesto Zedillo is a Mexican economist and politician who was president of Mexico from 1994 to 2000. He is the director of the Center for the Study of Globalization and professor in the field of international economics and politics at the University of Yale. He is also the chairman of the Board of Governors of the Global Development Network, an international research and politics network that offers new perspectives on the challenges we face in our times.

In his public appearances, he proposes actions in favor of justice, democracy, social development, stability and competitiveness, and also in the productivity of individuals, companies and industry, a necessary condition for growth and a better distribution of the wealth produced.

He also serves on the Board of the International Economics Institute, the International Crisis Group, and the World Economic Forum. He is also a member of the Group of Thirty, a think-tank based in Washington DC, that brings together people from university and leading personalities to expand our understanding of economic and financial problems and examine the consequences of the decisions taken in both the public and private sector.

He is currently on the boards of Procter and Gamble, Alcoa and Union Pacific. As secretary of the Programming and Budget Secretariat, he controlled Mexico’s foreign debt, the reduction of inflation and balancing the budget. He introduced reforms to reduce poverty, eradicate corruption and to continue enhancing the democracy of the electoral system.
