Rafael Grossi has been Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since December 2019. An Argentine diplomat, he has extensive experience in nuclear affairs and international organizations.

Before taking the helm of the IAEA, from 2013 to 2019, he served as Argentina’s ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to the international organizations based in Vienna. He also held various positions at the IAEA and participated in international negotiations related to nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear safety. In his current role, he leads the organization responsible for promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and verifying compliance with international obligations in the nuclear field.
