Federico Gutiérrez has been the Mayor of Medellín since 2024 and previously held the same role from 2016 to 2019. He began his political career as a councillor in Medellín, a position which he held from 2003 to 2011. 

In 2022, he was a presidential hopeful for the Equipo por Colombia coalition, backed by traditional parties. As the founder of the Creemos movement, he has become one of the leading opposition figures to President Gustavo Petro’s government. He has also promoted urban-development and social-protection initiatives.
