Jordi Gual

Jordi Gual has been Non-Executive Chairman of VidaCaixa since April 2021. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Telefônica Brasil and serves on the Advisory Board of Telefónica Spain. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley (1987) and is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. Between 2016 and 2021, he served as Chairman of CaixaBank, having previously been Chief Economist and Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Research at CaixaBank, as well as Managing Director of Planning and Strategic Development at CriteriaCaixa. He joined the "la Caixa" group in 2005.

Gual has been a board member of Telefónica, Erste Group Bank, and Repsol, and has held leadership positions including Vice President of the Círculo de Economía, Vice President of COTEC, and Chairman of FEDEA. Internationally, he has served as Economic Adviser at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission in Brussels and has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. Since March 2022, Gual has been an Associate at OXERA Consulting LLP (London) and serves on the boards of Fundación CEDE and the CIC Cultural Institution.

Recently, he was appointed SUERF Fellow and joined the Advisory Board of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts. He has published extensively on banking, European integration, and competition. He is a regular contributor to La Vanguardia and other media outlets. His latest book, Trust Has No Price: Trust in Capitalism and Public Policy, will be published in April 2024.
