Jaume Collboni


Mayor of Barcelona

Jaume Collboni, born in the Baix Guinardó neighborhood of Barcelona in 1969, comes from a family with diverse roots, including maternal grandparents who arrived in Catalonia from Andalusia at the beginning of the 20th century.

His social and political commitment began with union and student activism at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona (UB), where he would go on to lead the Associació de Joves Estudiants de Catalunya (AJEC) (1992–1995) and graduate with a law degree. During this period, he was a member of the UB’s senate under the mandate of Rector Dr. Bricall.

In 1996, he promoted the creation of the Technical Office of the UGT of Catalonia and was part of the National Directorate of the union from 1998 to 2005. During this period, he was one of the founders of CRESCO. From 2001 to 2005, he served as a union representative on the Economic and Social Council of Spain.

In 1994, he joined the PSC (Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya), where he began his political career as spokesperson for the Horta-Guinardó District in Barcelona.

Between 2005 and 2010, he was coordinator of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Parliament of Catalonia.

In 2011, he was appointed Secretary of Communication and spokesperson for the PSC, as well as a member of the Parliament of Catalonia. He served as spokesperson for the Business and Employment Committee and was a rapporteur for the electoral law and transparency law committees.

In 2014, he won the PSC primaries to become the party’s candidate for Mayor of Barcelona. In June 2015, he became a member of the Plenary Council of the Barcelona City Council representing the PSC. In May 2016, he served as Second Deputy Mayor following the government agreement between the PSC and BcnComuns.

After the May 2019 elections and until January 2023, he served as First Deputy Mayor for Economy, Labour, Competitiveness, and Finance. In June 2023, he was elected Mayor of Barcelona by the Plenary Council formed after the municipal elections held in May.
